On Tuesday, September 20, Greer Relief & Resources Agency hosted the 2016 Neighborhood Breakfast. The purpose of the event was to educate the community on the mission of Greer Relief and their focus on hunger and homelessness prevention.
Over 130 individuals gathered at Fairview Baptist Church to learn about opportunities within Greer Relief and what it offers to the community. The event started with breakfast and was followed by a short program.
Greer Relief Board President, Scott Harke opened the event with appreciation of support, “Thank you to all of our neighbors that have supported us with their time, talents, and financial contributions. We would not be able to make the impact in the Greer community that we do without each and every one of you.” Senator Elect Scott Talley took the stage early to present a State of South Carolina proclaiming, “September 2016 as Greer Relief and Resources Agency 80th Anniversary Celebration Month.” City of Greer Mayor, Rick Danner, closed out the event with a proclamation by thanking, “its leadership and volunteers for their dedicated service to those in need in their community, infusing human spirit with hope for a better tomorrow.”
“We wanted to make sure our neighbors have a good understanding of why we are here and who we help.” said Caroline Robertson, Executive Director of Greer Relief. “We appreciate the strength shown by the neighbor testimonial from Courtney Tessler. Her story shows the community how we help our neighbors in need to think past their crisis to see the light at the end of the tunnel.”
The program concluded with two $5000 donations from local business supporters Greer Memorial Hospital and Greer State Bank Foundation.
Attendees had the opportunity to support the organization by volunteering, donating, or getting involved with future events. Table captains gave their personal testimony of supporting Greer Relief as board members, volunteers, supporters, and donors.
