With over 85 years of service in the Greater Greer community, Greer Relief knows how financial instability creates barriers for our neighbors. By providing rent, utility, and food assistance, we are able to relieve our neighbors of this burden and allow them to strive for success. We do not operate alone. Our services are made possible by our community partners and volunteers who choose to be a part of the solution. These dedicated volunteers use their time and talents to help stabilize individuals and entire families, leading to stronger communities. Let’s hear from two of these volunteers in their own words about how Greer Relief is affecting results.
Tirza came to Greer Relief as an introverted young woman. Now, she teaches one of the many RENEW classes offered by Greer Relief. These classes allow neighbors to gain knowledge, strengthen skills to help themselves and their families, and receive incentives for doing so. Tirza explains why she came to us: “My best friend was too shy to come into [Greer Relief] on her own one day and told me she wanted me to come along to find out why they are so important to the community.” After coming in and speaking with the Volunteer Coordinator about the importance of community assistance in fulfilling our mission, she spent eight months volunteering. Asked how Greer Relief helped her, Tirza says: “Greer Relief helped me with knowing how to communicate with people and helping people in need.”
Georgina knew the importance of finding out more about Greer Relief, but she was hesitant to come in alone. Once she was in the door, her eyes were opened to what Greer Relief did for the community. With a smile, Georgina talks about her experience at Greer Relief: “My favorite part about being involved with Greer Relief is not just about helping other people, although that is the best part, but about the people that work there.” Georgina, a freshman at Clemson University, has stayed engaged with Greer Relief even when away at school. “My advice would be don’t be afraid to ask for help. You never know if this will inspire you to get out of the difficult place you are in,” says Georgina. We have enjoyed seeing their passion for service grow through volunteerism. Tirza and Georgina should be commended for their dedication to the mission of Greer Relief.
You have the power to help make change possible for those in need.
Greer Relief is proud to serve our community. By assisting with our neighbors’ basic needs like food, rent, and utilities, we have helped prevent thousands from going homeless and hungry. Our programs meet those in need where they live to make real change in their lives. We could not have this impact without your generosity. Whether it’s hosting the annual Christmas Morning Shoppe so parents can put presents under the tree for over 300 children, offering empowering classes through the RENEW program to educate individuals about job services, financial wellness, and
healthy living, or placing loaves of bread on our shelves for the hungry, Greer Relief works hard to remove the barriers that keep many of our neighbors from thriving. Giving to Greer Relief does so much more than provide temporary support.
When you give, you answer a family’s crisis.
When you give, you invest in a neighbor’s success.
When you give, you participate in the stabilization of an entire community.
During this holiday season, we ask that Greer Relief be a part of your giving. The needs of our neighbors are real and urgent. Their emergencies require solutions that we cannot provide without your help. When you give to Greer Relief, you are not just giving to us. You are giving to a Greater Greer that will continue to flourish.
Together, we can give hope.
The Greer Relief Team wishes you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
