Abby and Brody came to Greer Relief requesting assistance with their electric bill. They have
three small children, Maddie, Flynn and Veronica. Brody had been out of work for eight
months before finding work in April. Soon after he started work, Abby had an accident and
broke her leg in several places. She has been restricted from driving, a requirement for her
job, and is in Physical Therapy for her leg. She goes back to the doctor next month where she
hopes that she will be released on light duty. Her leg is healing ahead of schedule and Abby is
hoping that she will be able to go back to work before September. She is a contracted
employee so she doesn’t qualify for benefits while she is out of work. Brody’s income isn’t
enough to cover all the expenses. In addition to this they had two separate water leaks that
happened in consecutive months that caused their bill to be unusually high. They have been
able to fix the leaks so they are hoping their bill will be less next month. Brody’s mom has been
watching the kids so they haven’t had to pay for daycare and Abby has applied for a hospital
sponsorship to cover her medical costs. They are also receiving assistance from SC Mortgage
Help. I referred them to AccessHealth to help with other medical care needs and to Greer
Community Ministries for help with school supplies.
