Greer Relief remains committed to stabilizing and empowering our neighbors through these difficult times. We are continuing to monitor and take steps to encourage our neighbors to be mindful and follow the advice from the professionals at the CDC and SC DHEC.
Our stability program will remain open during this challenging time, as long as it is safe to do so. Greer Relief is taking precautions to reduce the risk to our neighbors, volunteers, and team members. People need food, housing, water, and electricity assistance now, more than ever. Many find themselves in crisis for the first time in their lives. We must serve those who feel the economic consequences of the Coronavirus pandemic most drastically. We will use the utmost caution and practice social distancing by communicating on the phone and over the computer. For those who do not have either, we will find a safe way to serve them. We are asking for neighbors to first call, (864) 848-5355 x1, for details on assistance. UPDATE: We have closed the lobby. All contact is by phone or computer only. Food pick up is still available, call first during service hours M-F 9 AM – 11 AM / Mon, Tue, Thurs 1:30 PM – 4 PM.
During this time, donations to support our efforts are needed to provide a hand up to those already experiencing need in our community. Greer Relief is already receiving donations to respond to utility needs in the community and has temporarily expanded our service area, Greer, Taylors, Duncan, Lyman & Wellford, to include all Greer CPW customers and Startex. This expanded service area will last as long as funds permit. Many of our neighbors are already finding themselves furloughed, laid off, and struggling with the reality of lost wages; we are bound together, not by address, but by the collective power of community. When our neighbor is in need, we lend a hand. Donations to Greer Relief can be made securely through our website at www.greerelief.org/donate.
You may also choose to contribute to the United Way COVID-19 Community Relief Fund at unitedwaygc.org/relief. Allocations from that fund will go to a wide range of local agencies that provide frontline services to members of our community.
Social distancing is our best defense in reducing the spread and impact of the virus. If you wish to help, there are two ways to do to that. Food donations, hygiene, and cleaning items may be dropped off in our lobby at 202 Victoria Street in downtown Greer. Contact is limited and we have significantly increased the frequency of cleaning to ensure the safety of all. Breakfast items and rice are most needed. Donations may also be brought to our employee entrance from 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday. Please call us at 864-848-5356 and include the name, address, and phone number of the donor(s) so gifts can be acknowledged. Donations may also be purchased on our Amazon Wishlist and ship items directly to our offices at 202 Victoria Street, Greer 29651.
Greer is a special place and is known for taking care of the people who live, work, and play here. In lending a hand to neighbors in need, we do more than help change individual circumstances, we create the opportunity for true and lasting connection with the people in our community. Giving wisely ensures that your donations and good will find their way quickly and efficiently to those in our community who need them the most.
We continue to pray and serve in this challenging time with deeper care and faith.
Grateful in Service,
Caroline T. Robertson, Executive Director
