Greer Relief remains committed to stabilizing and empowering our neighbors through these difficult times. We continue to monitor and take steps to encourage our neighbors to be mindful and follow the advice from the professionals at the CDC and SC DHEC.
Our stability program has remained open during this challenging time, but due to the recent executive order from the SC Governor’s office we are scaling back our service hours to encourage our neighbors to honor the order and limit exposure. We are still asking for neighbors to first call (864) 848-5355 ext 1, for details on assistance. Service hours will now be restricted to Mondays & Fridays 9-11 & 1:30 – 4. We will be starting mobile food distribution this week at sites within our service area. Look for details on social media. Financial assistance is still ongoing; we are doing our best to keep up with the staggering number of emergency assistance applications. Details of assistance can be found online at https://greerrelief.org//get-help/
If you wish to help, there are several ways.
- We are still utilizing volunteers on a limited basis. We have a special message for our volunteers, click here. Social distancing, masks, gloves and cleaning has allowed us to continue to operate and volunteers are an important part of our service. If you are a volunteer or are interested in helping, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator (Kitty) at volunteer@greerrelief.org or check out our online calendar and sign up, https://greerrelief.charityproud.org/VolunteerRegistration/Calendar.
- Donations to support our efforts are desperately needed to provide a hand up to the many experiencing need in our community. Food assistance in March compared to one year ago increased by 95%. Financial assistance increased at a massive rate, as well. The number of people assisted increased by 206% and monetary assistance increased by 234%. Greer Relief has received donations to respond to utility needs in the community and has temporarily expanded our service area, Greer, Taylors, Duncan, Lyman & Wellford, to include all Greer CPW customers and Startex. This expanded service area will last as long as funds permit. Many of our neighbors are furloughed, laid off, and struggling with the reality of lost wages; we are bound together, not by address, but by the collective power of community. When our neighbor is in need, we lend a hand. Donations to Greer Relief can be made securely through our website at www.greerrelief.org.
- Food donations, hygiene, and cleaning items may be dropped off in our lobby at 202 Victoria Street in downtown Greer. Contact is limited and we have significantly increased the frequency of cleaning to ensure the safety of all. Breakfast items and rice are most needed. Donations may also be brought to our employee entrance from 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday. Please call us at 864-848-5356 and include the name, address, and phone number of the donor(s) so gifts can be acknowledged. Donations may also be purchased on our Amazon Wishlist and ship items directly to our offices at 202 Victoria Street, Greer 29651.
Greer is a special place and is known for taking care of the people who live, work, and play here. In lending a hand to neighbors in need, we do more than help change individual circumstances, we create the opportunity for true and lasting connection with the people in our community. Giving wisely ensures that your donations and good will find their way quickly and efficiently to those in our community who need them the most.
We continue to pray and serve in this challenging time with concern for our neighbors.
Grateful in Service,
Caroline T. Robertson, Executive Director
