New Partner Open House: Welcoming FoodShare Greer
Greer Relief is partnering with FoodShare Greenville to introduce a new FoodShare Partner Site in Greer, SC. To celebrate, we’re having a FoodShare Open House at Greer Relief on Wednesday, October 23, from 2pm to 5pm. Refreshments will be served.
FoodShare is a community service that offers fresh fruit and vegetable boxes to the general public at a great value ($15), and offers the same box to those with SNAP/ EBT benefits for $5 SNAP. FoodShare boxes include 10 – 12 varieties of fresh fruits and vegetables with a recipe card for preparing the items in that week’s box.
FoodShare has been active in SC since 2015, and currently has partner sites in Columbia, Greenville, and Spartanburg. FoodShare was brought to the Greer community by Everett & Emily Orr. When asked why they chose this project, Emily responded, “We started a partner site in Greer because partner sites need to be near the communities where they serve and FoodShare had no partner sites in the Greer area. We want to get the word out to the community about this new exciting opportunity for fresh food. Now that we are here we want the community to come and see what we are doing. Please join us at our Open House to learn more about FoodShare and help us get the word out.”
Since starting FoodShare Greer in late August this year, 41 FoodShare boxes have been distributed to the local community, 15 were to SNAP customers.
Orders are due before 4 pm at Greer Relief, 202 Victoria St in Downtown Greer, during the hours Monday – Friday 9 – 11 & Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday 1:30 – 4. Boxes are available for pickup between 2 pm – 5 pm every other Wednesday at Greer Relief. The next food box order is due THIS Thursday October 17th by 4 PM for Pick Up at the Open House on Wednesday, October 23rd.
