Today we’re sharing an inspiring account of a neighbor in need: Kasey.
Kasey came to us almost a year ago when she was laid off. At that time, she had applied for unemployment but was still waiting for her benefits to start. She was putting in job applications online and at staffing companies, as well as going to SC Works every day. But the job search wasn’t immediately successful and Kasey began running out of money.
Greer Relief referred Kasey to Job Connection and WorldWide Staffing to continue her job search. We also referred her to Assurance Wireless so she would continue to have phone service for her search. In the meantime, we were able to help her with her Duke and SJWD bills to keep her services from being disconnected. Additionally, we helped Kasey with $30.00 of gasoline to help her be able to continue her job search.
Shortly after receiving assistance from us, Kasey started receiving unemployment while she continued to look for work. She was finally able to start a seasonal job at the beginning of the year filing taxes. This job, of course, only lasted until mid-April so Kasey was again out of work. She came back to us, particularly in need of a prescription for an antibiotic. Since she has no medical coverage during this time that she is out of work, we referred her to the Free Medical Clinic and AccessHealth representative at MTCC for her future medical needs.
Kasey has been diligently going to the library to use the computers to search for and apply for jobs. We were able to cover the cost of her medication as well as giving her another $30.00 for gasoline so that she can continue to look for work.
