Luke, Tessa and their three children came to Greer Relief in need of assistance on their water bill. The water bill was really high over the summer, so they had their landlord fix a leak in the fall and have had the utility company come out to check things on their side. Even with the leak fixed their bill is still over $100.00. Tessa usually gets overtime at work so her checks are more but for the past month she has not gotten any overtime. Two months ago Luke started getting fewer hours at work, then their car broke down so he was having trouble finding transportation to work. They eventually had to take him off of the schedule because of the issue with transportation. They tried for a while to get the car fixed but it continued to have problems so they ended up getting another car. They now have a car payment when they weren’t paying one before. Now that they have a car Luke has been looking for work. He doesn’t have his GED so he is working with Middle Tyger Community Center to get his GED. He is hoping once he has his GED he will be able to find a good paying, reliable job so he can better support his family. Luke was also referred to Job Connection for help with training and employment. Greer Relief was able to cover the amount past due on their water bill to prevent disconnection.
