Grab your hats and scarves and follow the sound of ringing bells as Santa’s sleigh rides through Greer! Greer Relief announces the 2019 Greer Christmas Parade to be held on Sunday, December 8th at 2:30 pm. This year’s theme is Classic Christmas Stories. The festivities are held in conjunction with a weekend of activities organized by the City of Greer & Greer Station Association. Join us #hereinGreer to kick off the holiday season! You’ve waited all year, and now the moment to enjoy marching bands, fire trucks, festive floats, and everyone’s favorite guest, Santa, is here. We’re excited to have two new additions to the Greer Christmas Parade this year.
Christmas Parades should be fun for the whole family, but loud noises and vibrations can be sensory overload for some. Greer Relief, in collaboration with the City of Greer, is introducing a Sensory Safe Zone at the Greer Christmas Parade. We decided to add a special area to share the joy of the holiday with some of our neighbors who usually do not enjoy a live parade. The Sensory Safe Zone is two blocks along the parade route on N. Main Street between W. Arlington Avenue & W. Bearden Street. All parade entries are asked to refrain from revving their engines, using sirens, air horns, and car horns along this portion of the parade route. The public is still encouraged to stand in the Sensory Safe Zone, but are asked to be aware of what we are trying to accomplish and be supportive of the atmosphere and intention of this unique space.
This year’s parade has one last surprise! The inaugural GrandSouth Bank Elf Fun Run will kick off the parade in elfish style. This is an opportunity for serious runners, joggers, and families to get their elf costume off the shelf and run the parade route 30 minutes prior to the event. Groups, businesses, clubs and schools are encouraged to participate as a team and dress the part. This is not a timed event, this is a FUN 1.1 mile FUN RUN for ANYONE who wants to participate! Yes, strollers and your furry friends (leashed) are invited too! The GrandSouth Bank Elf Fun Run begins at 2:00 pm at the intersection of W. Poinsett St. and Memorial Dr.
